The East River starts at emerald lake and flows south to Almont where it meets the Taylor River and creates the beginning of the Gunnison River. One of the great things about fishing the East River is the diverse number of species that call it home. This stream is an excellent dry fly fishery that has plenty of aquatic hatches almost daily. In addition to the trout, the East river also has Kokanee Salmon. These fish make a run from the Blue Mesa Reservior to the hatchery every year where they were born. When the Salmon start to drop there eggs in the fall the trout fishing really begins to heat up. There is roughly 2 miles of great public fishing on the East River which is located below the Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery. We seem to fish the East a lot because the river never gets to crowded.
