Gunnison River

Gunnison River

Snow melt from the surrounding 14 thousand foot peaks are the source for the pristine waters and amazing fly fishing here in the Gunnison Valley. The part of the Gunnison that we fish the most is the upperGunnison and it’s amazing. The Gunnison begins in the town of Almont, Colorado where the East River meets the Infamous Taylor River and from there it offers an epic 20 miles of FISHY, floatable water until you get to Blue Mesa reservoir. There are stretches of private water in these 20 miles so please watch your step. The Gunnison moves along at a good clip so get ready for some run and gun sections and hold on for that GIANT brown. The Gunnison River has long runs and riffles as well as many large deep pools. We all know what’s in there. We fish everything from streamers to dry droppers it all depends on what the fish are hungry for that day.   The Gunnison is rated as on of Colorado’s best trout streams and that says a lot considering all the great fishing in our state.
